Flying With Pets

While traveling with pets is on the rise, regulations have become stricter and airlines are modifying their rules.

Willits Veterinary Hospital is responsible for necessary travel documents and health records so you and your pet can travel safely and smoothly. We ask you let us know at least 1 week in advance of domestic travel (within the US) and up to 4 weeks in advance of international travel. Depending on your pet, we may recommend a healthy pet examination and we make sure your pet is up to date on necessary vaccines required for travel.

Below is an airline travel checklist before you take off with your pet.

  • Food
  • Medications
  • Updated Vaccines
  • Flea, Tick and Parasite prevention
  • Updated Vet Records
  • Vet Health Certificate
  • Registered Microchip
  • Identification Tag
  • Proper fitting crate (cargo or under the seat)
  • Check with your airline, destination country or state for specific requirements (visit https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel)

As always, feel free to call or email us with any questions or to schedule an appointment for upcoming travel needs.
